DESCRIPTION:Join the American Revolution Institute and the Georgetown County SC250 Commission for a special virtual seminar discussing various topics highlighting the marquis de Lafayette and the American Revolution in South Carolina. This virtual seminar features the Institute’s director of education\, Stacia Smith\, discussing Lafayette’s farewell tour in 1824 and 1825\, as celebrated by the Institute’s exhibition\, Fete Lafayette: A French Hero’s Tour of the American Republic; the Institute’s research services librarian\, Rachel Nellis\, highlighting the surprising and exciting stories of several of the Revolution’s southern heroines\, including Grace and Rachel Martin\, daring sisters-in-law from Ninety-Six\, South Carolina; and the Institute’s historical programs manager\, Andrew Outten\, discussing the saga of Revolutionary War veteran Andrew Wallace and his claimed service in every major campaign from 1776 to the war’s end—from Canada to South Carolina—along with the significance and legacy of his story in the context of memorializing the Revolution and its veterans. \nThis program will only be held virtually.
