4th Annual Art in Bloom DC to be Held at Anderson House

February 21, 2024

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Back by popular demand, Art in Bloom DC returns for its fourth annual exhibition at Anderson House this spring, from March 14 to March 17, 2024. Following in the footsteps of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the de Young Museum of San Francisco, Art in Bloom DC is a prestigious exhibition that celebrates works of art and floral design through the display of flower arrangements as interpretations of art and architecture at historic Anderson House. Completed in 1905, Anderson House was the home of American diplomat Larz Anderson and his wife, author and philanthropist Isabel Anderson, for more than thirty years. This National Historic Landmark has been the headquarters of the Society of the Cincinnati since 1938 and opened its doors as a museum in 1939.

Art in Bloom DC provides a unique opportunity in the nation’s capital to stroll through the museum at your own pace, viewing interpretations of specific artworks, furnishings, and architectural details rendered in a floral medium by some of Washington’s most creative and innovative floral designers. The more than 40 floral designers from the local area include professional florists and representatives of flower guilds and garden clubs—all showcasing their floral prowess. Their inspirations range from Japanese porcelain and Chinese sculpture to 17th-century Italian choir stalls and the Ballroom’s iron-and-marble flying staircase to portraits of Revolutionary War soldiers.

The exhibition will be open for viewing on Thursday, March 14 from 12 to 4 p.m.; on Friday and Saturday, March 15-16, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and on Sunday, March 17 from 12 to 4 p.m. Tickets cost $15 per person online or $18 per person at the door. Our expert museum docents will be on hand to discuss the history of Anderson House, the collections, and the Society of the Cincinnati and its American Revolution Institute. Guests will also have special access to the garden, which is not normally open to the public.

During the four-day exhibition, there will also be special ticketed demonstrations from floral designers BLK FLWR MRKT, Atelier Ashley Flowers, HBO’s Full Bloom Finalist Sarah Khan Event Styling, and Keith Stanley. Registrations are required for these hour-long demonstrations.

A sold-out evening reception will cap off the first day of Art in Bloom DC on Thursday, March 14.

Anderson House is the exclusive venue for Art in Bloom DC 2024. The event is co-produced by the Institute, Margo Fischer of Bright Occasions and Ashley Greer of Atelier Ashley Flowers.
