Stare into the eyes of an eighteenth-century portrait. Marvel at the craftsmanship of a sword or a musket. Read the handwriting of George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, the marquis de Lafayette or one of hundreds of other participants in the American Revolution. The Institute’s temporary exhibitions offer intimate and compelling looks at the history of the Revolution through authentic works of art, artifacts and documents. Primarily exploring themes related to the cause for American independence, the people and events of the war and the Society of the Cincinnati, these exhibitions contribute to our understanding and appreciation of the Revolution and its legacy.
The Institute presents a new temporary exhibition each year in the changing gallery on the first floor of Anderson House. The current exhibition is Revolutionary Beginnings: War and Remembrance in the First Year of America’s Fight for Independence (March 1, 2025-January 4, 2026), which looks at three critical battles in the first year of the war through more than forty rare documents, maps, paintings and artifacts.
