Stare into the eyes of an eighteenth-century portrait. Marvel at the craftsmanship of a sword or a musket. Read the handwriting of George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, the marquis de Lafayette or one of hundreds of other participants in the American Revolution. The Institute’s temporary exhibitions offer intimate and compelling looks at the history of the Revolution through authentic works of art, artifacts and documents. Primarily exploring themes related to the cause for American independence, the people and events of the war and the Society of the Cincinnati, these exhibitions contribute to our understanding and appreciation of the Revolution and its legacy.

The Institute presents a new temporary exhibition each year in the changing gallery on the first floor of Anderson House. The current exhibition is Voices of Revolution (February 28, 2026-January 10, 2027), which explores the variety of people who participated in the Revolutionary War and some of the battlefields where their paths crossed through more than forty rare documents, maps, paintings and artifacts.
