Lunch Bite – A Portrait of Capt. Francis Lord Rawdon

May 20, 2022 @ 12:30 pm - 1:00 pm

Join Museum Collections and Operations Manager Paul Newman as he discusses a portrait of Capt. Francis Lord Rawdon (1754-1826) by Hugh Douglas Hamilton (1740-1808), ca 1777. Lord Rawdon, an Irish-born officer in the British army, served under Generals Sir Henry Clinton and Charles Lord Cornwallis during the Revolutionary War. After taking charge of his company following the wounding of his superior officer at the Battle of Bunker Hill, he experienced almost every major battle through the end of the war. This Lunch Bite will focus on Captain Rawdon’s remarkable service during the Revolutionary War and this surviving wartime portrait of him. The presentation will last approximately 30 minutes.
