What is the place of the American Revolution in the future we are making?

In this lecture presented in the North Carolina Museum of History’s American Revolution Lecture Series (sponsored by the North Carolina Society of the Cincinnati), the executive director of the American Revolution Institute argues that the American Revolution is properly understood as a people’s revolution—a social and cultural transformation driven by the desire of ordinary people for personal independence.

 

About the Speaker

Jack D. Warren, Jr., is the executive director of the American Revolution Institute of the Society of the Cincinnati. An historian of the American Revolution and the early republic, he served as an editor of The Papers of George Washington on the faculty of the University of Virginia before coming to the Society of the Cincinnati, where he has been executive director since 2004. He is the founding executive director of the American Revolution Institute, launched in 2014 to ensure popular understanding and appreciation of the American Revolution and the author of The Presidency of George Washington (2000) and other works on the Revolutionary generation, most recently America’s First Veterans (2020).
