Visitor Services Associate

The American Revolution Institute of the Society of the Cincinnati, a nonprofit historical and educational organization headquartered in Washington, D.C., seeks two part-time visitor services associates to be responsible for staffing the front desk on weekdays.

The visitor services associate will be a public-facing, welcoming and informative presence to ensure that members of the public and the Society have a positive experience at Anderson House, the 1905 mansion and National Historic Landmark that is the headquarters of the Society of the Cincinnati. This role is the primary staff member responsible for welcoming guests to Anderson House, orienting museum visitors and completing ticket transactions, recording applicable visitor data, and receiving library researchers, staff appointments, and other visitors to Anderson House. The visitor services associate is also responsible for answering email and phone inquiries.

Major duties include:

  • Greeting museum visitors, completing all ticket transactions and accurately recording customer data using the FareHarbor point-of-sale system;
  • Helping to orient visitors to Anderson House, and assisting the rest of the visitor services team in managing tour logistics and museum security;
  • Welcoming library researchers, guests with appointments with other members of staff and other visitors to Anderson House;
  • Displaying a working knowledge of the Institute’s activities in order to address a wide range of inquiries from the public and Society members on subjects including the history of Anderson House, museum group tours, library research, rental events and member services;
  • Administering shop and member boutique sales; and
  • Performing a variety of administrative tasks for the museum and other departments that assist the day-to-day operations of the Institute, including assisting with scheduling group tours and volunteer docent schedules.

 

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree with previous work experience in a customer service role and an interest in museums or cultural institutions is preferred. A successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills (pleasant, resourceful and professional demeanor). The visitor services associate must be trustworthy, display good judgment and maintain attention to detail. This position may involve moderate physical activity such as standing for long periods and climbing stairs.

 

Hours and Salary

Each visitor services associate will work two days per week during the period of Tuesday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Compensation for this position is $20 per hour.
